Eclectic Home: Dinosaur Toothbrush Holder

I bought some cheap dinosaur toys from Wal-Mart years ago and gradually came to realize that, while I like dinosaurs, I don't play with toys anymore.  I wasn't really sure what I'd do with them, so they just sat in my bedroom for a while.

Cue surprise winter moving!  Suddenly I was sharing a bathroom with two other individuals, and didn't have a place to put my toothbrush.  I thought about looking into buying a toothbrush holder, but I am very poor and lazy, and shopping takes money and effort.  So I tried to think what I could use that I already had, and thought of my dinosaur toys.

This is a really cute and fun way to hold your toothbrushes.  If you get a long-necked dinosaur, you can also use it to hold hair ties (as Rexy* is proudly modelling).

*I named my toothbrush holder Rexy.  He has an inferiority complex because he's not a T-Rex.

How to Make a Dinosaur Toothbrush Holder

You Need:
1 hollow dinosaur toy (I got mine from Wal-Mart for about $1)
Sharpie or marker
X-Acto knife
Toothbrush (to make sure holes are big enough)

1.  Remove all tags from your dinosaur toy and wash.  This is going to hold something that goes in your mouth, and you want it clean!
2.  Using your marker, draw lines about where you want the toothbrushes to be held.
3.  Using your X-Acto, cut along the lines about as far as you think you'll need.  Cut two slits coming off of the end of the line you just cut, leaving enough room for a toothbrush to be inserted.
4.  Try to insert your toothbrush into the hole.  If it's not wide or long enough, make adjustments.
5.  Once you've sized your toothbrush hole properly, cut the last flap of plastic.
6.  If you want the toothbrush to go all the way through the dinosaur, put the X-Acto knife through the hole on top of the dinosaur and hollow cavity until you hit the plastic on the dinosaur's underside.  Make sure the X-Acto's aligned straight (otherwise the toothbrush will sit crooked!) and push through.  Make one incision for each corner.
7.  Flip the dinosaur over so its underside is facing you.  Use the X-Acto knife to join the corners and cut out a hole for your toothbrush.

Display with pride.  Rawr!
